Trey Minchew is a 2009 RHP/3B/OF with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends The Walker School. He has a nice, young build with some strength and more to come. Minchew's arm works well from a standard 3/4's release point. His mechanics are inconsistent right now, which affects his command of his pitches. Minchew's fastball was 74-77 mph and was fairly straight. He threw a 66 mph curveball that showed good spin at times. He projects to add some more velocity as he gets stronger. Minchew played outfield when not pitching and showed some arm strength and good throwing fundamentals. You could see Minchew's throwing potential better in the outfield than on the mound. Minchew is a good student.

Trey Minchew is a 2009 RHP/3B/1B with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Marietta, Georgia, who attends The Walker School. He is a very young player with a lean and projectable frame. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. He stays tall in his delivery that allows him to throw downhill very well. Minchew gets nasty cutting action on his fastball that topped out at 80 mph. The cutting action is natural, and it is a very effective pitch for him as he misses the center of many bats. He also mixed in a 63 mph curveball and a 71 mph slider to keep hitters off-balance. Minchew shows poise on the mound. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a wide base and uses a no stride approach. He shows solid bat speed through the hitting zone with a line drive swing plane. He finishes his swing high with extension. He has good strike zone awareness and shows good pitch selection, especially for a young player. Minchew is also a good student.
