Braden Riley is a 2007 switch-hitting middle infielder from Woodville HS, residing in Woodville, TX. He has an average, lithe body type on a 5'10" 165 lb. frame that still has plenty of room to fill out. Riley still has a lot of positive development ahead of him but showed well enough to be ranked #69 among PG National Top 100 position players. Switch-hitting middle infielders from Texas generally get plenty of attention, particularly if they can play a bit and Riley is a talented young player. From the left side of the plate he sets up with an open stance and showed good feel for hitting. He has an easy swing and good hands. For the most part he showed himself to have good bat control and a spray type contact hitter. As he continues to get stronger, he has a chance to be a gap hitting line drive hitter from the left side. From the right side, he starts his swing wth a high step stride. His hands work well from this side too and his bat showed more life than from the left side. Riley's swing is bigger from the right side, where he must feel a bit more comfortable. He is more aggressive from that side as well. In the field Riley was very good at making plays on the move. He has a strong average arm and made easy flip throws, particularly well on the double play turn. His quick release serves him well at both middle infield positions. Riley also has good hands and overall has nice feel for the defensive side of the game. He ran 4.46 home/1st and posted a 7.20 60 yard time. Both times can be expected to be lowered in the coming years as he adds more strength and power to his body, which will just amplify all of his skills. Riley is a quality D1 prospect with a very good chance to develop into a professional prospect during his college career.
PG Grade 8.5
