Chris Marrero is a 2006 shortstop/third baseman from Hialeah Garden, FL with a very good body at 6-3, 200 lbs. While the tools comparison might be a bit unfair, being from Miami it is natural to look at Marrero and think of a young Alex Rodriguez physically. And that's not to critique Marrero's tools, he has some of the best tools in the 2006 class. He is an agile and quick athlete who runs the 60 in 6.92. Marrero has played as much shortstop as he's played third base and projects as a top, top defensive player at the corner position. His hands are smooth and his arm strength is as good as it gets at 91 mph with accuracy. Offensively, Marrero hits out of a tall, balanced and generates plus, plus bat speed. He slammed one ball to straight away center in BP that went at least 425' and showed the ability to turn on quality fastballs during the games. Marrero's quick hands and balanced, mature approach at the plate promise both power and average in the future. There isn't much in the way of weaknesses to his overall game. Marrero is an excellent student who has signed with Miami.

Chris Marrero -- Any discussion of who the top prospect was at the World Underclass is going to at least include Marrero’s name. He’s a sophomore third baseman from Miami who looks like he was standing at the head of the line when big league bodies were being given out. Marrero is strong throughout his 6-3 frame while still maintaining his looseness and athletic actions. He hits from a wide base with a calm, balanced approach and shows above average MLB bat speed and power to all fields. Marrero faced a pitcher throwing in the upper 80’s in the Prospect Game and one hopped the left center field fence with a rocket up the alley. It’s hard to remember that he’s just a sophomore. Defensively, Marrero has well above average MLB arm strength with very little effort. He threw 89 mph across the infield in workouts and will throw in the low 90’s before long. Marrero moves well to either side and will be an excellent third baseman as he moves on to higher levels. He’s also a superior student taking advance level courses. There’s nothing not to like about this top prospect. He's one of the nations top "06" talents. Possibly even #1 in that class before he's done!
