Derek Barnes is a 2009 RHP/1B from Lower Merion HS, residing in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, with a 6'4"/202 pound frame. Derek pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. He has good arm speed and showed good poise on the mound. Barnes has an 83 mph fastball with arm side movement and a sweeping 11-5 curveball at 66 mph. He has a very good upside on the mound. At the plate, Derek hits from a closed stance with a short stride. He has a balanced approach and solid bat speed. Barnes has an uppercut swing plane and good pull power.
