Nicholas Quiroz is a 2008 MIF with a 5'9'', 160 lb. frame from Gilbert AZ, who attends Mesquite HS. He has a small frame and a compact build with some strength. Quiroz does a nice job of getting the most out of his present day ability, which is the type of player he is going to have to be as long as he plays the game. He has a chance to hit at the college level, starting with an aggressive, flat swing. When he was on-time, the ball got off his bat well and he showed surprising pop for his size. Quiroz swings aggressively through contact and though his swing does have some length, he does show some natural hitting instincts. Too often he was early to the baseball with an overaggressive pullside approach, indicating that he needs to develop a better timing mechanism. Defensively he showed soft hands and a quick release, with decent feet. He is a pretty solid defensive 2nd baseman, though his range is limited by his footspeed.
