LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Davis Duren is a 2007 left hand hitting midde infielder from Tulsa Union HS, residing in Tulsa, OK. He has a lean, lithe, athletic build on a 6'0" 170 lb. frame that will continue to get stronger and bigger as he physically matures. Davis is the type of player that continually draws the attention of scouts. His body type is one reason Duren is watched closely (he just looks like a good player) and he continually flashes intriguing ability as a left hand hitting middle infielder. Duren was ranked #76 among PG National Top 100 position players and has the look of a player that has a lot of positive upside. He has a flat swing plane and generates good bat speed, with easy effort and good balance. Duren's lower half works well in his swing, a sign that he has a chance to maximze his body's power potential. His hands are good and quiet as he gets the bat quickly through the zone. Duren creates good spin off the bat, which combined with his bat speed and wiry strength results in some carry type power. He is the type of hitter who's mistakes will leave the yard if he keeps that flat, line drive swing plane with resulting spin. In the field Duren also showed that he has good hands. He is not a flashy, "look at me" actions type middle infielder, rather just solid, get it done defender. He sets up to the ball well and showed that he can really turn the double play. His arm stroke is quick and he can get rid of the ball from different angles. Duren's athleticism serves him well in the infield but he also looks like the type of player that would be adaptable to other positions on the field. He ran 4.49 home/1st with a 6.96 60 time that should get a tick or two better as he adds some power and explosion to his lower half. Duren is a projection type athlete that would develop quite nicely at the D1 level, but he also should get some area scout interest this spring.
