LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
David Paulsen is a 2007 right hand hitting corner outfielder/3rd baseman from Windsor HS, residing in Healdsburg, CA. He has a strong, muscular, very nice build on his 6'2" 190 lb. frame. It is a Big League type body. Paulsen at times showed some very good raw power type tools and was rewarded with a #88 ranking among PG National Top 100 position players. He hits from a square stance and has a lower half that works very well. He takes a big, aggressive swing and showed the intent of hitting ball hard each time up, regardless of facing more than a handful of hard throwers that more or less overpowered the hitters at this showcase. That approach was contraty to many players that looked as though there were just trying to make contact. Paulsen did show that he can get to and handle velocity. He has good raw bat speed and for the most part his hands worked inside the ball. Presently he has developing gap to gap power and will be clearing walls in the coming years. He showed decent balance and is clearly strong. All he really needs is some polish on that approach. In some ways he is reminiscent of two players from his region (Sonoma County), Jonny and Joey Gomes. From the outfield he showed solid average arm strength, good for left field and playable in right. He has a good approach to the ball and was in position to throw accurately. He made quality one hop throws, another thing players generally do not show and do in showcases. Paulsen is big and strong with athleticism, evident with his 4.36 home/1st time and 6.89 60 yard time. D1 college should be on him pretty strongly and he should be on the follow list of his area scouts. That combination of strength, athleticism, and aggressiveness is attractive.
