Barrington Burke is a 2007 OF/MIF with a 5'10'', 150 lb. frame from Upland CA, who attends Upland Christian HS. Burke is a talented, athletic player with life in his body and a lot of upside. He has a lean, wiry, twitchy body type and is going to get stronger. Offensively he has a chance to be an impact player at the top of the order. He can run, with above average usable speed. He regularly puts pressure on the defense and once on base, he has some base stealing instincts. Burke is not just a speedster though. He has a quick bat and loose wrists that generate a lot of bat speed. The barrel whips through the zone with a lot of life. He also utilizes his lower body well, clearing his hips as his hands are passing through the contact point. Burke hits hard line drives and ground balls when at his best, spraying the ball around the yard with that lively, lashing swing. His swing can get a little big, resulting in fly balls, but that is an overaggressive thing that he will work out of in time. One of his most impressive swings was when he pulled his hands in on an inside fastball, cleared his hips, and put the barrel on the ball, keeping it fair down the left field line. Most hitters would have just spun on it and hooked it foul. Very interesting. Defensively he showed a quick arm and some arm strength as the ball exited his hand well. He has soft hands and could be a versatile player capable of playing in the infield. However, he is a good centerfielder, covering a lot of ground and getting good jumps out there. His grades are decent, state schools are in range. Junior College ball could also be a possibility. In any case, he is blossoming impact player that will be heard from in the coming years.
