Jiwan James is a 2007 OF/P with a 6'4'', 170 lb. frame from Willistan FL, who attends Williston HS. He has a long and lean build with wiry strength and easy, balanced actions. James is a three-sport athlete with Division I talent in both football and basketball as well as baseball and he does things so easily and smoothly that it looks almost casual. James is one of the top defensive outfielders we've seen at this level. He's a 6.68 runner with long, easy strides that eat up ground. His combination of arm strength, accuracy and release is unsurpassed at this level and he might end up throwing 100 from the outfield when he gets stronger and is a full-time baseball player. Offensively, James is a switch-hitter with raw hitting skills but good bat speed and very good hands. He's better from the left side now, where he hits from a spread stance and can drive the ball to all fields. Overall, James is a high ceiling athlete who loves baseball and who is one of the best makeup kids in the 2007 class. He's signed to go to Florida but will get high level draft interest before then.

Jiwan James is a 2007 OF/P with a 6'4'', 170 lb. frame from Willistan FL, who attends Williston HS. He has a very lean and long build like a basketball player and has limited present strength. James is, in fact, a basketball and football standout as well, but has told us he's firmly commited to baseball. James' athletic ability is most evident on defense. He has tremendous skills across the board. He threw 92 mph during drills with outstanding accuracy, consistency and carry. James is a 6.77 runner with easy long strides and he gets very good jumps on balls and covers huge amounts of ground. Offensively, James is a switch hitter who shows much more advanced skills from the left side. From the right side, his lack of relative strength is evident. He hits off his front foot with his weight forward and leans through the ball with a short, contact oriented swing. From the left side, James is much better balance, with a wider stance and quicker, smoother stroke. He shows some lift and extension left handed and projects well with the bat. He had a couple of nice game hits left handed. James also pitched a bit, the first time we've seen him on the mound. He threw 85-88 mph with an effortless, loose arm action that made it look like he was throwing BP. His curveball and split finger change were raw but promising. It looks like James could be a 90+ guy with some work and innings but that should only be a fall back incase his bat never develops. He's too good an athlete to only project on the mound. James is a fine young man and a good student as well.
