CJ Sandmann is a 2008 OF/P/IF from Lincoln-Way East HS in Frankfort, IL, with a 5'9'', 150 lb. frame and a medium build that is developing strength. He ran the 60 in 7.42 and threw 75 mph from the outfield. He has good arm strength for a sophomore and can improve with some mechanical adjustments on his release. He showed good speed on the bases and showed nice range in the outfield, including making a great diving catch in a showcase game. Sandmann hits out of a wide base with an open stance and tight hands in his swing. He never gets his hips or lower half closed to the ball and is left with only his upper half to swing the bat. Sandmann has a short, contact oriented swing and will hit to all fields. More strength and better use of his lower half will improve his hitting potential. Sandmann also pitched and showed arm strength, throwing 79 mph on his fastball from a high 3/4's release point. Sandmann worked quickly and did a good job throwing strikes and shows some promise on the mound with normal development. He is also a good student.
