Zion Echols is a 2017 OF/1B with a 6-3 185 lb. frame from Van Lear, KY who attends Prestonsburg. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.69 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder with smooth, athletic footwork while closing on the baseball. Shows good range while moving to each side as well. Clean glove actions while working through baseball with developing fluidity. Long arm circle back at separation and releases from a three-quarters arm slot. Throws create uphill carry to the bag with some accuracy. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and leg lift trigger. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions and some shift. Quick hands to contact on a level, line drive plane. Has some bat speed with a good feel for the barrel through extension. Primarily used a mid-field approach but has the ability to work to all fields at times. Development and refinement of lower half actions will generate jump off the barrel. Good student as well.
