Michael Maola is a 2017 RHP/3B with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Muttontown, NY who attends Jericho Senior High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.65 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, shows a compact windup on the mound with a high leg lift up past belt, lands open with strike foot during drive towards plate. Short and quick arm action through the backside working to a three-quarters arm slot, able to generate natural cut on fastball that topped out at 76 mph with release point. Works quick and able to keep the ball down in the zone while showing ability to work in and out to either side. Induces weak contact and fills the zone, flashed a short breaking ball at 66 mph. Fields the ball out front in the infield and shows a similar short arm action through the back, gets on top of throws well and creates carry out of hand, takes short steps to either side moving towards the ball, extra step at release, accurate throws across the diamond. Righthanded hitter, begins with an upright stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Stays short and direct to the ball with an inside approach, shows bat speed and able to create backspin and carry off the barrel when on time with the barrel. High leg lift trigger for timing, shows a feel for the barrel and able to consistently work the middle and pull side parts of the field. Very good student.
