Caleb Shofner -- Shofner is a lean and projectable sophomore catcher from Texas who shows signs of being a top hitting prospect. He hits with a no load, no stride approach and generates very good bat speed for his age. The ball jumped off Shofner’s bat in both batting practice and in games. Along with his 3 game hits, Shofner just missed a couple of other pitches that he would have driven hard. This young man has some loft in his swing and he's going to get more than his share of extra base hits as he gets older and stronger. Shofner is a very good athlete with live body actions and close to average big league speed. His arm strength is short right now for being a premium catching prospect but he has time to improve that. If Shofner doesn’t catch, his athletic ability will enable him to play many other positions well. Shofner comes from a baseball family and is sure to get plenty of repetitions and lots of work over the next few years. Caleb is a good student.

Shofner is an "06" C/3B from Hewitt, TX. At 5'11/165 he has a strong athletic frame with plenty of projection for more size and strength. He runs exceptionally well for a catcher, in fact, he projects to end up with "plus" MLB speed. He may be better as an infielder at the present, but shows serious skills behind the plate. He receives well with a good setup and shows real good feet. His arm plays now and will get even stronger. His transfer/releases are smooth and quick with a 2.02 POP to second base that is online. As an infielder he show a soft glove, good range and a quick release. He throws from a 3/4 slot with loose arm action. At the plate he flashes quick, strong hands and excellent bat speed with a line drive type swing plane. He shows some power to pull side, With physical maturity he has a bright future. Great feel for the game. One to follow closely in the "06" class. Caleb is a good student.

Shofner is a young sophomore catcher with athleticism enough to play the infield as well. He has what we would consider a good frame for his age at 5 foot 10 and 160 pounds and plenty of room to grow. He already showed strong running ability by producing a 6.90 in the 60 which is a MLB plus for any catcher and he showed lots of potential in his catch and throwing ability from behind the dish. He got his pop time as low as 2.09 and we think it could be better if he finished strong on the throw and released the ball a bit more out front and not so high. Of course, he's going to improve naturally as he grows and adds strength. Presently he showed 71 mph velocity on his throw so he is in good shape at this time in his career. At the plate he showed a quick swing and an aggressive approach. He shows good Division 1 potential on both sides of the ball.
