2017 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
RJay McCoy is a 2017 RHP/ with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Wichita, KS who attends Heights. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Ran a 6.87 sixty-yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather with slight arm wrap at take back. Works to the plate with tall and fall actions when releasing from a loose three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed some running action to arm side in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 miles per hour. Showed two planes with breaking ball. Slider had loose spin with occasional tilt in the low 60's. Curveball had 10/4 shape with slightly more spin and some depth. Consistently changed speeds and developed better command as outing continued. Flashed best command when repeating arm action and slot while maintaining tempo. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, deliberate footwork while closing and working through transition. Compact arm action at released that generated uphill carry to the bag topping at 75 miles per hour. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and mechanical refinement.
