John Vanderploeg is a 2017 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Sheboygan Falls, WI who attends Sheboygan Falls. Large frame with long, lean build and lots of physical projection remaining on frame. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.24 seconds. Primary pitcher, has balanced delivery with good lower half drive through to release, shorter arm circle through the back with good quickness to arm, releases from low three quarters slot. Fastball worked 75-81 MPH with good life to the arm side, topping at 84 MPH. Very good feel for his changeup, replicates arm speed with good fading action. He hits from an open stance with a deep hand load set, has legitimate strength in swing to go along with good bat speed. Shifts well into contact, turns the barrel well with authority, drove the ball into the air consistently. Worked out defensively at 1st base, showed quality fielding actions with solid arm strength, quick release up to 76 MPH. Very good student.
