Jean Carlos Rodriguez is a 2008 C/SS with a 5'11'', 198 lb. frame from Bronx, NY who attends George Washington HS. He has a strong, physical build with very good lower body strength. Rodriguez is an advanced defensive catcher who has good feel and very good energy behind the plate. He has a cannon arm and threw 82 mph during drills with a long and easy release. Rodriguez tends to wind up to throw but was 1.95 to 1.98 a couple times in games and can be intimadating with his pure arm strength. He sits pretty quietly behind the plate and shifts well to balls in the dirt. At the plate, Rodriguez hits from a spread, square stance and has a very aggressive, attacking swing. He's looking to drive the ball and hit it hard somewhere. He has very good raw bat speed and plenty of lift in his swing. Rodriguez likely won't hit for a high average at the next level with this approach but he will hit for power and be a run producer. You have to appreciate the way Rodriguez plays the game, he really enjoys being on the field.
