WP - Brian Howe is a 2006 LHP/1B from Lake Havasu HS in AZ. Brian has a medium frame with a lean build. He does show surprising strength that will only improve as his body matures. He has a quiet, easy approach that allows him to have plus pitch recognition. Brian was able to hit both gaps in batting practice and shows good presence on the field. On the mound Brian has a late breaking curveball with tight spin to go along with his low 80s fastball. He hits his spots well and shows good pitchability.

Howe is the son of 17 year big league southpaw Steve Howe and it’s easy to see the similarities between the two. Brian still has a very young body, even for a sophomore, but he has plenty of body life to him and some bounce to his step. His skills are very advanced for his age, though. Howe throws with a smooth, easy delivery and repeats his arm stroke and release point flawlessly on all three of his pitchers. His fastball is 79-82 mph and he does a good job of moving it around the zone with purpose. Howe’s curveball is 64-66 mph and shows signs of becoming a strikeout pitch for him as he gains more velocity and arm strength. Howe also throws a 70-71 mph change up that has good deception. It will be interesting to see how Brian develops over the next couple of years as he gets bigger and stronger. Brian is a very good student as well. Throwing low 80s from the left side at his size is outstanding. The way he swings the bat and plays 1B is also impressive. And the bloodlines are there. He's not going to stay at 5'7/145. He needs to be followed.
