Joe Barbuto is a 2017 SS/OF, RHP with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from North Babylon, NY who attends North Babylon High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and some room to fill throughout frame. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, takes short steps to the ball, shows a quick first step and works through backhand well, fields the ball out front and hands play, accurate throws with arm strength that will continue to develop. Also pitched, shows good tempo to delivery and has ability to repeat mechanics, works from an over the top arm slot. Fastball topped out at 76 mph, featured short cutting life away from righthanded hitters. Filled up the zone and mixed in an 11-5 curveball with nice rotation up to 62 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Short and direct path to the ball, keeps hands in on swing and shows a sound path with a relaxed stance. Uses a leg lift trigger for timing, creates contact to all fields and shows quickness to hands. Very good student.
