Craig Simonson is a 2009 C/OF/3B with a 5'8'', 147 lb. frame from Savage, MN, who attends Burnsville High School. Simonson was one of the youngest players at the event, but he showed advanced tools for his age. He has a lean and projectable body that will easily add strength. He has solid arm strength behind the plate with his throws at 73 mph. Simonson is a two-handed catcher who receives well with nice hands. He did a good job catching older pitchers with good stuff. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a very quick bat for his age. He stays short and compact to the ball with a line drive swing plane. He takes an aggressive swing on balls in the strike zone, but stays balanced throughout his aggressive swing and gets good leverage at the point of contact. He is currently a line drive gap to gap hitter, but he should be able to drive the ball deeper in the gaps as he matures physically. He is great upside as a hitter and catcher. He is a must follow, and is a good student as well.

Simonson is a 5-8, 145 lb freshman catcher from Savage, Minnesota. Quick lively body with developing strength. Good athlete for a catcher. Simonson ran the 60 in 7.47 and ran a very quick 4.39 down to first base on a ground ball. He showed his quickness during catching drills with a best pop time of 2.11, very good for a 14 year old. Simonson's catching skills are raw at the moment. He sets up with too wide a base with his feet, which inhibits his lateral movement and tends to stab two-handed at pitches. He has the physical skills to really develop as a defensive catcher with some good instruction, though. Offensively, Simonson has a good line drive stroke and generates some bat speed for his age. He is primarily a upper half rotational hitter and will develop more power when he learns to use his lower half. Overall, Simonson has the tools to keep developing as he gets older and stronger and should become a nice catching prospect. Follow.
