Ernst is a 6-0, 170 lb left handed pitcher from Lakeville, Minnesota who also plays some outfield. Ernst has a very good athletic body for his age (he only turned 15 shortly after the showcase) and projects well physically in the future. On the mound, Ernst throws from a standard 3/4's release point and has good mechanics up to his release. He does throw with some effort on release and tends to cut his arm off out front instead of extending through the plate. Ernst showed very good stuff for a southpaw his age. His fastball toppped out at 81 mph with very good sinking and running life. His slider had good sharpness and bite at 70 mph and should be a difficult pitch for both left handed and right handed hitters to handle when he refines it. Ernst struggled with his command, especially down in the zone, but that is correctable with age and experience. Ernst is also worth following as an outfield prospect. He showed good defensive ability and arm strength and has a nice, fluid swing with some bat speed. Very good overall follow.
