Childs is a 6-1, 175 lb junior left handed pitcher from Circle Pines, Minnesota with a good pitcher's body. Childs has a good balanced delivery with a pause at the top to gather himself and good direction to the plate. He throws from a mid to low 3/4's release point with an extended release point and a loose arm action. Childs fastball was 80-81 mph and he turns it over on release and gets some running and sinking action. Childs best pitch was a 71-73 mph slider that was pretty nasty at times when he stayed on top of hit. It had very good depth and bite. Childs curveball had similar quality spin and depth to it at 67-69 mph. He also threw a 68 mph change up. Childs has an idea with his pitches and although his control wasn't sharp, there is no reason that it shouldn't be in the future with more experience. Overall he's a projectable left hander with quality present pitches and he should get better in the future. Childs is also an outstanding student. College coaches in the Midwest should follow this young prospect.
