Brett Sawyer is a 2007 1B/3B with a 5'10'', 220 lb. frame from Chesapeake VA, who attends Great Bridge HS. He has a thick, strong build that can be firmed up some. Sawyer ran the 60 in 8.03 and threw 75 mph during infield drills. He has good defensive actions at first base, with good footwork and positioning. Sawyer hits from a balanced stance with fairly low hands. He has an upper body rotational swing and a line drive swing plane. Sawyer made consistent line drive, especially to right field, and his hand strength gave him some gap to gap pop. He tends to raise up through the ball on contact which helps give him a bit of lift on contact but does also change his eye level. Sawyer is an excellent student.

Brett is a very strong 2007 player with corner tools. This 5"9-210 "Greg Luzinski" shape body, he is a R/R player from Chesapeake and splits time between football and baseball. His bat is his tool. We think by the time he is a senior he will be showing big time power. He swings from the right side with very quick bat speed and strength to swing the wood. College projection on bat. Very good balance in swing with advanced strength in his legs and hands now with the rest of his body catching up. Showed 73inf velocity with above ave hs hands and ave hs feet. Also worked out at 1b with decent actions. He is solid as a rock and showed very good body control on slow roller. He will need to continue to work on foot speed, 8.14, but we feel he will end up in the mid 7's in the future.

Brett is a young stocky 5-9/210 lb. "freshman" third baseman from Chesapeake, Virginia with a strong, thick body and athletic actions. He shows good lateral movement with the ability to throw off his back foot well. He has soft hands and can make all the plays. His arm strength at 69mph across the infield should improve as he gets older. He hits from the right side of the plate with a wide, strong base and a high hand setup. He uses a slight knee lift trigger into a balanced swing through contact. He uses all fields well and shows above average bat speed with flashes of gap-to-gap line drive power. He is young and developing. Brett is an excellent student..
