BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'7'', 240 lb. frame from Masonville, IA who attends West Delaware. Powerful body. Best we've seen him this year, better arm speed and used entire body well. Some arm side run on FB and pounds the zone with it. Gets on the side of his CB to create 10/4 break. Changeup is also a quality pitch. Excellent command of everything. Spins it well and could be power hammer if he gets on top of it. Consistently 91-92 from windup. A big power/finesse type who is among the best pitching prospects in the country. Signed with Oregon State.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'7'', 240 lb. frame from Masonville, IA who attends West Delaware HS. Extra large and strong build. Long and smooth arm action, extended 3/4's release. Back side not coming thru this outing, FB upper 80's, occ tailing action. Consistently on side of CB, have seen plus CB shape/spin in past. Developing change up. Still early, delivery and release not in sync yet. Very good student, signed with Oregon State.

He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a long loose arm action. Hermsen has good arm speed and pitches with low effort. He throws a good change-up with sink and armside run on it. He also throws an 11/5 curveball with good spin. He is a very good student.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'6'', 230 lb. frame from Masonville, IA who attends West Delaware. He was an Aflac All American last year. He usually throws in the low 90s to sometimes mid 90s. He has three quality pitches and outstanding command. He is a big horse who can be a power guy, but with a lot of finesse. He can pitch and compete! He is presently in the middle of basketball season and just threw a light bullpen in CR. Mostly mid 80s and showing the CH. We didn't want him throwing breaking balls. It will be a hectic spring.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'6'', 230 lb. frame from Masonville, IA who attends West Delaware HS. He has a pro type body already, with excellent strength and easy athleticism. Hermsen's velocity took the bump that the PG staff has anticipated in Cincinnati, pitching in the low 90's and topping out at 93 mph. Hermsen's delivery is very advanced and consistent, especially for his age and size, which enables him to throw all his pitches for strikes and maintain the quality of his upper 70's curveball. If anything, Hermsen's delivery lacks a bit of deception and he has his curveball grooved to the middle of the strike zone. When he faces more challenges, look for Hermsen to be able to advance his game accordingly. He is a very high ceiling prospect; maybe the best to come out of Iowa this generation. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'6'', 230 lb. frame from Masonville, IA who attends West Delaware HS. He has a big league body right now and could even get stronger, which is a scary thought. Hermsen throws from a full, balanced delivery with a back turn to the plate and has exceptionally consistent mechanics for a big pitcher his age. In fact, Hermsen's mid 70's curveball is almost dull, he throws it in the same spot with the same break virtually every time. He's also been 87-90 pretty much every time he's thrown for the past year plus. Hermsen throws to the middle of the plate and his full turn delivery prevents him from pitching to his glove side effectively. Hermsen is a three sport star (football QB, 25+ pt basketball scorer) and he if he were to concentrate on baseball more we would see the surge in raw stuff that we know he has in him. Sky is the limit with this kid.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'6'', 230 lb. frame from Masonville, IA, who attends West Delaware High School. Hermsen has a great pitcher's frame with present strength, yet he is still projectable. He has a great deal of upside on the mound. He has a loose & easy arm that works very well. It looks like he is just playing catch and the ball comes out of his hand very easily. Hermsen gets occasional sink/run on his fastball that topped out at 91 mph. He shows present velocity and there is more to come. He throws a power CB in the mid 70s that has downward bite and depth. To round things out he throws a change with very good sink and he maintains arm speed on the pitch. Everything seems to come easily to him. Hermsen is a great all-around athlete with a very high ceiling. He is a must follow for every high level Division I school and every professional team. Great student as well.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'5'', 225 lb. frame from Masonville IA, who attends West Delaware HS. He has big time Major League body right now, with excellent present strength and a wide shouldered frame. Hermsen is also a top lep level basketball player and football quarterback and he has that overall athletic look to him. It was the middle of the football season so we didn't expect Hermsen to be anywhere near his top performance level, but he pitched very well. Hermsen throws from a tall delivery with a good hip/lower body turn. He maintains his down hill angle to the plate well. Hermsen's fastball was steady at 87-88 mph and we'd expect him to be steady at 91-92 mph if he was in shape. His fastball bores well to right handed hitters. Hermsen sometimes doesn't open back up his hips when throwing his curveball and throws closed, but he gets good spin on the pitch and a sharp downer break when he opens fully. We're really looking forward to how Hermsen develops over the next year and a half; he could become one of the top power pitching prospects in the country.

BJ Hermsen is a 2008 RHP with a 6'5'', 225 lb. frame from Masonville IA, who attends West Delaware HS. He has an excellent athletic build, with broad shoulders and hips and long, strong limbs. Hermsen is an outstanding all around athlete and looks like a future Major Leaguer in uniform. He throws from a full, balanced delivery with a quick arm action and extended 3/4's release point. Hermsen threw 86 mph easily with good sinking action and there is plenty more in there. His breaking ball was 72 mph with a big, sweeping break and he showed a feel for a change up. Hermsen has no problem throwing strikes with all his pitches and shows little effort on the mound. He's a high ceiling talent who could really take off if and when he turns to baseball full-time.
