Alec "AJ" Jones is a 2018 C/3B with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Poway, CA who attends Poway HS. Large frame with an athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Right handed hitter with straight, balanced stance and simple stride. Creates some lower half shift into contact. Hands launch on a direct, compact path with a line drive swing plane. Showed a mid-field approach while consistently squaring up contact throughout batting practice. Flashes bat speed and strength to contact at times, driving the baseball to the gaps. Worked out defensively from behind the plate and infield. From behind the plate shows a a compact arm cirlce at separation with a high energy, overtop arm action that produces carry to the bag. Quick footwork and gains ground to bag while working through transition. Reliable, soft hands while receiving as well. From the infield shows athletic, fundamental footwork while surroudning the baseball. Good first step angles to each side with developing range. Clean glove skills while funneling baseball out front through transition. Throws from a compact, high three-quarters arm slot that produces accurate carry acorss the infield. Grades high as a infield prospect at this time. Very good student as well.
