Matthew Cox is a 2016 C/RHP with a 6-2 205 lb. frame from Houston, TX who attends The Kinkaid HS. Strong, physical build with present strength, developing lower half. Primary catcher that looks the part behind the plate, receives the ball well and shows good lateral movement. Has solid arm strength, developing footwork, could show more direct line to bases on throws. Right handed hitter, simple and repeatable mechanics, shows solid shift into contact, stays balanced throughout swing. Line drive swing plane with developing feel for barrel, shows ability to pull the ball, projects well at plate with more consistent use of lower half. Also pitches, works exclusively from the stretch and has good armspeed. Ran fastball up to 83 mph, pitch has good life down in the zone. Also mixes in solid changeup in upper-70's and a developing slider. Outstanding student.
