Alex Maruri is a 2008 3B/2B with a 5'11'', 205 lb. frame from Bronx, NY who attends Archbishop Stepinac HS. He has a large framed, strong build with good physical maturity. Maruri's tool is his bat. He has an unconventional hitting style from a stiff/squat stance but he has very quick and strong hands and is very aggressive attacking pitches. Maruri crushed balls during the games and squared up on everything. He stood out as the best game hitter at the showcase and his combination of strength and aggressiveness is outstanding. Maruri's swing is level and occasionally even a bit downward, so it's hard to project too much home run power at present, but the ball just jumps off his bat. Maruri is a good runner at 7.09 and runs the bases with abandon and instincts. The question for Maruri will be defensive position. He moves OK at third base and his hands work, but he has a slow release and cross body throwing release with below average arm strength. Better direction and fundamentals on his throwing would help, but he may end up at first base in the future. Maruri is a good student off the field.

Defensively he shows solid third base actions. At the plate is where Maruri will do his damage. He is a right handed hitter with a leg lift trigger and an open stance. Maruri raises up during his swing and changes his eye level, but he still gets to the ball and makes solid contact. He attacks the ball and shows good bat speed with strength and power in his bat. There is leverage in his swing at contact and the ball jumps off his bat. His strength, power, and solid contact will make him a middle of the order run producer at the next level. He is also a good student.
