Gavin Mason is a 2007 RHP/1B/OF from Naperville North High School in Naperville, IL, with a 5'9'', 190 lb. frame. Mason throws from an over the top arm slot with arm speed and a balanced delivery. He gets cutting action in on the hands of right handed hitters at 79 mph, and he consistently throws strikes with the pitch. Mason also mixes in a 68 mph curve ball with late break. He has good tempo on the mound keeping his defense in the game. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with good hand strength from a low hand set. Mason has a line drive swing plane and makes consistent contact to all fields. He stays balanced through his swing and gets good leverage at the point of contact. Produces bat speed through the zone and can drive the gaps with some pop. Defensively he has a strong and accurate arm with online carry from the outfield. Mason is a two-way player with upside, and is a good student as well.
