Matt Ramsey is a 2008 C/P/OF with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Knoxville, TN who attends Farragut HS. Ramsey has a short, stocky frame with very good present strength. He is an excellent two-way prospect, although the more scouts see him behind the plate the more they like him at that position. Ramsey has played lots of outfield in the past as well. Despite his stocky build, Ramsey is a 6.81 runner and has outstanding quickness and energy behind the plate. His blocking skills are above average. Ramsey's arm strength ranks among the best in the class and his quickness gives him incredible game pop times; we got him in 1.85 and 1.87 IN GAMES on the bag. With the bat, Ramsey has a simple, compact swing and does a good job staying inside the ball and letting it travel to him. He has enough strength to get the ball out into the gaps and use his speed to create some extra base hits. Ramsey was up to 90 mph on the mound in Cincinnati and we've seen him up to 92 in the past. He has a sharp slider and knows how to pitch. But Ramsey's future is clearly behind the plate. He reminds some scouts of a Russell Martin type of player.

Matt Ramsey is a 2008 C/P/OF with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame from Knoxville TN, who attends Farragut HS. He has a thick, strong build with very good present strength. Ramsey was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Ramsey is a very good two-way prospect and we're not really sure what his best position is. He has excellent arm strength from all positions. On the mound, Ramsey has a low effort delivery and a short, very quick arm stroke. He repeats his delivery and his release point very well and can locate all his pitches. His fastball was 88-91 mph and topped at 92. It was pretty straight but Ramsey can spot it in and out. His 72 mph curveball had tight rotation and a very good 12/6 dower bite. It's a very nice weapon for him. Ramsey had excellent presence on the mound and knew what he was doing. He doesn't have a lot of projection but has very good present skills and tools as a pitcher. As a position player, Ramsey took drills as an outfielder and lists that as his secondary position but his profile and tools scream "catcher". In fact, he mostly caught during the showcase games and showed very good catching tools, with quick actions and predictably plus arm strength. He could become a top level defensive catcher at the next level. Offensively, Ramsey has bat speed from a short, quick swing. He has a simple, repeatable stroke from a line drive swing plane. He has limited rhythm to his swing and starts his hands from a still start, which is something he'll have to work on. Overall, this is a young player who can really do a lot of things on the field and has a very nice approach to the game. Colleges should be all over him. Ramsey is a good student, too.
