Jacob McCarvel is a 2017 RHP/MIF with a 6-2 155 lb. frame from Moreno Valley, CA who attends Canyon Springs. High-waisted athlete with large frame and high-end physical projection. Primary pitcher, works with shorter arm circle up to high 3/4 slot, generates good downhill plane to the plate and stays on top of the ball. Fastball worked 78-84 with good sinking, running action. Missed bats and barrels with the pitch. Uses legs well in delivery and projects with arm speed to throw harder. Very good feel for the changeup with deception and fading action along with good velocity differential from FB. Slider flashed legitimate two plane tilt with sharpness. Hits with big shift into contact with projectable bat speed and overall hitting tools; line drive swing plane with consistent contact and solid strength off the barrel. Showed good first step in the infield, charges well, throws from all arm angles with solid arm strength, topping at 77 MPH with accuracy. Named to 2015 Sunshine West Top Prospect List. Very good student.
