Alexander Velez is a 2015 RHP with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Arecibo, PR. Tall slope shouldered build, projects well physically. Big leg raise delivery with a good hip turn, deep arm action with a stab down his back leg, tends to fall off to the first base side on release, arm works well out front when everything is directional. Flashes good arm strength, fastball up to 84 mph early, mostly straight with occasional good running/sinking life down in the zone. Tends to slow arm and drop his release point on his curveball, some curveballs in the low 60's, soft spin with occasional depth. Has a good arm to develop with better and more consistent mechanics. Good student.
