Ford Hilyer is a 2018 C/RHP, MIF, OF with a 5-7 160 lb. frame from Wetumpka, AL who attends Alabama Christian Academy. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a strong build, present strength throughout with looseness. Primary catcher, receives the ball out front, quick feet with high energy actions coming out of lower set crouch, longer stride into release, gets on top of throws, gets on top of throws and shows big arm strength and carry down to second base on throws. Same up-tempo actions in the infield, shows quickness to footwork and fields the ball out front, hands play, extra steps moving into release, works behind the ball well, shows solid arm strength with carry out of his hand. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery, quick paced tempo throughout; works with a quick and compact arm action through the back, gets to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 87 mph, mostly true in life with plane when on top; curveball showed 12-6 shape up to 69 mph, flashed fading life on changing at 74 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Utilizes a toe tap trigger for timing and a contact oriented approach at the plate. Has quickness to hands with a linear swing path, occasionally gets to front side early but creates contact out front. Shows a feel for the barrel and can connect for contact to all parts of the field with line drives off the barrel. Named to PG Top Prospect Games Top Prospect List. Good student.
