David Rivera is a 2017 SS/RHP with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Lakewood, CA who attends Lakewood HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.19 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop with active, fundamental footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove action while funneling the baseball out front and working through transition. Flashed solid range to both sides with athletic actions while throwing on the move. Primarily releases from an over top arm slot that creates solid on line carry across the infield, topped at 82 mph. Flashed very athletic actions while charging and working through slow roller. Right handed hitter with a spread, balanced stance. Hands launch on a direct, compact path to contact creating a line drive plane through extension with occasional leverage. Stays above the baseball well while working to the middle of the feel with a good feel for the barrel. Has present bat speed with good jump off barrel when squared. Produced occasional rising line drives with good carry to the outfield gaps. Repeats swing mechanics well with fluidity throughout. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Good student as well.
