Will Smith is a 2007 LHP with a 6'4'', 215 lb. frame from Newnan GA, who attends North Gate HS. He has a big, athletic frame that is very strong now and could get even stronger with more work in the future. Smith has a low effort, smooth delivery and an extended mid 3/4's release point. He tended to get out of sync from the strength and push the ball with more effort. Smith's fastball ranged from 80 to 85 mph with good sink and run. His off speed pitches both showed very good quality and were his best offerings. His curveball was up to 73 mph and had good spin and bite to it. His 76 mph change up had good arm speed and life. Smith is a ground ball pitcher with three solid pitches and an idea how to use him. We keep waiting for his velocity to pick up but that just might now happen despite his big strong body.

Will Smith is a 2007 LHP/1B from North Gate High School in Newnan, GA, with a 6'4'', 215 lb. frame. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Smith is a tall and strong lefty who throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a smooth arm action. He has a balanced delivery with good leverage. Smith gets running action on his fastball that topped out at 85 mph showing present arm strength, and we think there is much more velocity to come. He also mixes in a good curveball at 73 mph with tight break in the zone, and he has a feel for his changeup and 74 mph. Smith has good control of all three pitches, and shows pitchability mixing them up. Defensively he has good hands at first base, and shows his easy arm action on throws across the diamond. At the plate he has good bat speed from the right side and likes the ball on the inner half of the plate. Smith is a must follow with upside on the mound.

Will Smith is a 6-4, 210 lb junior left handed pitcher from Georgia. He has a low effort delivery with a short, compact arm action. Smith's fastball topped out at 81 with some running action. We've frequently seen him in the mid-80's before and after the showcase, so that's a very low velocity for him. Smith's curveball was 66 mph with good sweeping action. He also threw a 71 mph change up with some quality. Smith showed good command of all his pitches and had an idea how to get hitters out. With his best stuff he's even tougher to hit. Smith also showed good power as a right handed hitting first baseman and can help himself as a hitter. Named to the Top Prospect Game. Very good follow.
