Nicholas Chiapel is a 2016 3B/RHP with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Wildwood, MO who attends De Smet Jesuit HS. Solid build with present strength, broad shoulders speak to physical projection remaining on frame. At bat, stands square to plate with upright and relaxed stance then fires forward with rotational swing featuring very good bat speed. Pull-field, power approach. Wants to hit the baseball hard to left field and drive it into the gap/over the fence. Swing is short to the zone and has lift through the zone. Projects to hit for power. Strong prospect with strength in swing. Worked out in the infield during defensive drills. Good actions that project to 3B well. Showed solid ability to charge the baseball and throw accurately. Consistently accurate throws with solid arm strength, topping at 79 MPH across diamond. Took the mound with a stiff, leg raise delivery with long arm action. Showed fastball and curveball as repertoire. Worked up in the zone with straight FB, sitting in the high 70's and topping at 79 MPH. Curveball showed good depth and solid spin. Threw both pitches consistently for strikes. Good student.
