Alex Atkins is a 2019 LHP/OF, 1B with a 6-3 178 lb. frame from Prospect, KY who attends North Oldham. Long, lean frame with wiry strength throughout. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.91 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher who works exclusively from the stretch. Creates a slight pause at balanced point while gathering. Curls front side slightly while working into gather with a high leg kick. Good on line direction with lower half and carries momentum through the plate well. Releases from a compact, high three-quarters arm slot generating good downward plane on the baseball when kept at the bottom of the strike zone. Fastball has occasional life with good command of the zone. Shows the ability to work to each edge of the plate as well, topped at 75 mph. Also worked out defensively from first base showing good, clean footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball with fluid glove actions. Creates a long arm cirlce and separation and releases with an uphill arm action. Throws produces some on line carry across the infield with accuracy. Left handed hitter, stacks back side at load and lanches to contact with linear actions. Creates solid shift into contanct. Smooth barrel and hand path with a line drive swing plane. Shows quaility leverage through extension when on time with front side trigger. Primarily looked to turn barrel to contact and drive baseball to the pull side gap. Solid two way prospect that will continue to develop with physical maturity. Outstanding student as well.
