2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Chad Basma is a 2006 P/1B from Northgate High School in Sharpsburg, GA, with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame. The medium framed right hander throws with a sidearm delivery on the mound. Basma has a long and loose arm with good arm quickness. He is very tough on right handed hitters with the hard arm side run he gets on his 82 mph fastball. With his deceptive delivery, his fastball velocity appears to be higher making the ball appear to jump on the hitters at the end. It is easy to project Basma to throw with more velocity in the future because of his loose arm and arm speed. He threw two breaking balls at the showcase, one being a slow curveball and a harder slider. He mixed his pitches effectively and keeps hitters off-balance. At the plate he keeps his weight back well with solid bat speed, but needs to turn on the ball more and be aggressive. We think his future is on the mound, and he is a very good student as well.
