Ruben Mercado is a 2016 SS/2B with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Pleasanton, CA who attends Foothill HS. Medium athletic build, has some present strength with more to come. Right handed hitter, open spread stance, aggressive hitter who swings hard and creates some bat speed, showed pull power in batting practice and in games, loose swing with good extension, can improve balance for more consistency but has the hitting tools to develop. 7.47 runner, charges the ball very well on defense, good balance and soft hands, plays defense with some flair, arm strength plays up due to quick release, will take the next step defensively with better speed and quickness. Fun player to watch, enjoys playing and has some tools. Good student.
