Thomas Valera is a 2006 SS/2B with a 5'8'', 165 lb. frame from Smyrna, Georgia, who attends Whitefield Academy. He is an athletic player with good speed and quickness. He ran a 7.19 sixty on a slow track, and he has a quick first step. His first step quickness really helps him on the bases, as well as defensively. In the middle of the diamond he has nice footwork with very quick hands and quick transfers. Valera has good range to both sides, and he has plus body control. At the plate he is a legitimate switch hitter. From the right side he has very good bat speed with raw power to drive the ball from gap to gap. From the left side he has a tendency to pull of the ball, but he still has very good bat speed with strength in his swing. Valera has a good understanding of the strike zone and will not get himself out.
