Anthony Rizzo is a 2007 left hand hitting 1st baseman from Stoneman Douglas HS, residing in Parkland, FL. Rizzo has a big, strong, physically mature build on his 6'2" 225 lb. frame. There is not a whole lot of physical projection left with him, but as long as he keeps hitting the way he is capable of, that won't be a big issue. Rizzo can punish a baseball. He has strong hands and those hands work quite well in his swing. Rizzo stays behind the ball and generates a lot of energy through contact, driving the ball hard with power. His bat speed and raw strength are both assets and combined with pretty good timing, Rizzo is a bruiser with the bat in his hands. He uses the whole field and showed plus opposite field contact. He can leave any part of the yard. With Rizzo it is fairly simple... stick him in the middle of the line-up and let him produce. Over at 1st base he will not be confused with J.T. Snow, but he has a good arm and is an adequate defender. Obviously he is a big target to throw to from across the diamond. Range is somewhat of an issue but as long as he makes the plays he can get to, which he should be able to, then there is always a place for him in the starting nine with his bat. He ran 4.99 home/1st and posted a 7.58 60 time. Pro teams may be scared off by his mature body, but he will make a lot of noise this spring and could draw some crosschecker attention. If he gets to college, it is scary to consider a metal bat in his hands.

Anthony Rizzo is a 2007 1B with a 6'2'', 225 lb. frame from Parkland FL, who attends Douglas HS. He has a very strong and mature frame. Rizzo maintains good agility and speed for his size and is a smooth fielder first baseman who will make his infield teammates better. Rizzo hits from a slightly open stance with a calm aproach and a smooth, easy swing. It doesn't look like Rizzo is swinging very hard until the ball comes off his bat. Rizzo has strong hands and the ability to hit the ball deep in the zone and still drive it hard. He can turn on balls hard and pull them with power using his strength and leverage. Rizzo reminds us a bit offensively of Andy D'Alessio, another big Florida first baseman who has gone on to be an impact player in college. Although he didn't get a chance to pitch at the Sunshine East Showcase, we've seen Rizzo pitch in the past and since and he's a 83-85 mph southpaw with good command and competitiveness. Rizzo is also a strong student.

Anthony Rizzo is a 2007 1B/P/OF from Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, with a 6'2'', 215 lb. frame. He is a very strong player with powerful actions. Defensively he has a good glove and moves well around the first base bag. He also made some nice picks on throws in the dirt during the workout and showcase games. He can do some damage at the plate. The left handed hitter has good bat speed through the zone and the ball explodes off his bat. When he centers the ball well, it will go a long way. As powerful as his swing is, he still stays balanced and gets great leverage at the point of contact. Rizzo loves the inside pitch and turns on the ball well. He is a top level follow as a hitter. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long and loose arm action. Rizzo has an effortless and balanced delivery with good arm speed that helps produce a low 80s fastball with good arm side life. He also mixes is a 2 to 8 curveball at 69 mph, and shows good control of both pitches. Rizzo is a two-way prospect that needs to be followed, and he is an excellent student as well.

Anthony Rizzo is a 6'2" 215 pound 2007 first baseman, left handed pitcher, and outfielder from Parkland, Florida who attends Douglas High School. He has a tall frame with a thick strong build. Anthony has a short compact swing and makes good contact with power. He seems to be a low ball hitter who has excellent bat speed. He has a level swing plane with good strength with a good balanced approach. Rizzo has good soft hands at first base. He has decent actions with good quick feet and agility. His arm strength was impressive across the infield as well at 81 mph during the workout. On the mound, he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed. He has good command of both pitches he throws. He finishes very well to the plate as well. His fastball at 80 mph was fairly straight and his curveball at 69 mph is very sharp with 12/6 rotation. Anthony is a high level prospect with big time power potential. He has a very good upside and is a must follow who is a good student as well.
