Derek Niesman is a 2009 OF/IF/P with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame from Wellington FL, who attends Kings Academy. He has a medium frame with good present strength for his age. Niesman hits out of a slightly open, crouched stance and takes an aggressive hack at the ball. His swing is upper body rotational and he has strong hands and generates good bat speed with a line drive swing plane. The ball jumps off his bat pretty well and he can get it up the gaps. Defensively, Niesman has very sound fundamentals for his age and nice arm strength. He's balanced approaching the ball and accurate with his throws. Niesman is a 7.12 runner and could improve his speed some as he gets older and have centerfield skills. It would be interesting to see him play in the infield as well, as his bat would play bigger there. Niesman is a nice young player with good all around tools. He's also a good student.

Derek Niesman is a 2009 2B/P/SS/OF from Kings Academy in Wellington, FL, with a 5'9'', 170 lb. frame. Was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Niesman was one of the youngest players at the event, but he showed his all-around skills that will make him a player to watch over the next three years. Defensively he has nice footwork in the middle of the diamond and gets in position well to make all of the plays. Niesman has good body control and athleticism that many young players don't have. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a nice line drive swing plane. He is short to the ball and has very good bat speed for his age. Niesman drives the ball from gap to gap centering the ball well with strength and balance in his swing. On the mound he throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and hides the ball well. He attacks hitters with his 79 mph fastball that gets good late life. Niesman can spin the breaking ball, and he throws strikes. He has two-way potential, and it will be fun watching him develop over the next couple of years.
