Marlon Leyva is a 2008 C that attends Christopher Columbus HS and resides in Miami, FL with a 6'0", 200 lb. frame. Marlon has a strong thick build and did well in the workout behind the plate. At the plate Marlon has a level swing-plane with good bat speed. His swing gets to long and he will really need to work on shortening up his swing and keeping his hands inside the ball more. Behind the plate Marlon shows off good raw arm strength. When he gets everything working together his pop times are good but he has a tendency to double pump on his throws. Marlon is a player that will attract the attention of some smaller colleges.

Marlon Leyva is a 2008 C/1B from Columbus HS in Miami, FL, with a 5'11'', 205 lb. frame. He has a mature build and very good present strength. Leyva showed very solid defensive actions. He has good quickness in his shifting and shows arm strength on his throws. His best throws are when he stays on top of the ball but he will drop down occasionally. His best pop time was 1.98. Leyva showed he was in control of the game behind the plate and has leadership skills, which is impressive for his age. Leyva hits from a closed stance with tight hands to his body. His strength gives him some bat speed and power on contact. Leyva is a rotational upper body hitter who likes the ball inside and also showed he could drive the ball when it was up in the zone. He can hurt a pitcher who puts the ball in the wrong spot. Leyva isn't particularly projectable with his present body and strength but he has good tools and the right skills for his position. He plays hard and knows the game. He's a solid catching prospect.
