Jason Hanson, ss, 5-11/179, R-R, Sabino HS, Tucson, Ariz. 60 time: 6.87 – In terms of raw tools and explosiveness, Hanson rates very well with the top prospects in the nation. He is a power-packed, compactly-built athlete with a big arm and pop in his bat. It does not look like he has the footwork or instincts to stay in the middle infield but there is no doubt his arm plays on the left side and would also play in right field. He also runs well. The question is where he will settle in defensively. His bat is good and he does have power, but it may not be enough for the corner positions. For that reason, he likely will be given a shot to stay up the middle and develop his skills.

Jason Hanson is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Tucson, AZ who attends Sabino HS. He has a medium build with some present strength. Hanson is a live bodied athlete with very good run/throw tools. He ran the 60 in 6.64 and has plus arm strength in the infield, throwing 87 mph in drills but really cutting it loose in games. Hanson's actions are a bit stiff at shortstop and he will need to improve his release, so there is still some work to do defensively. Hanson had a very good showcase with the bat and has really improved offensively since the last time we saw him. He hits from a spread stance and has very good bat speed with some lift and power potential. He used the whole field but drove the ball hard everywhere and stayed quick and compact. The ball jumped off his bat hard and he made some nice hitting adjustments. His offensive potential stands out if he can stay in the middle of the field.

Jason Hanson is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Tucson, AZ who attends Sabino. Hanson has a well proportioned athletic body with good present strength. Hanson is a middle infielder with very good offensive potential. He has a balanced approach and swing at the plate, with quick hands that stay short to the ball. Hanson centered just about everything at the showcase and consistently rocketed line drives up the gaps. He stays inside the ball well and hits under control with a plan. He's going to be a run producer at a premium defensive position. Hanson is a 7.04 runner in the 60. He has middle of the field arm strength and quickness to the ball on defense. His hands were a bit hard this outing, which we haven't seen in the past and perhaps it was just a one time thing. Hanson plays with lots of energy and hustle to his game and we appreciate that. He is a good student who has signed to play at Oklahoma State.

Jason Hanson is a 2008 right hand hitting shortstop from Sabino HS, residing in Tuscon, AZ. Named a Top Prospect at this event. He has a 5'11" 177 lb. frame and a strong, athletic, compact body that is built for playing up the middle. His body is lively and strong. Hanson flashes tools that if they all develop as consistently usable, will have him on the follow lists of his area scouts for the '08 draft. Offensively he has plus bat speed and hands that work. His wrists are loose and his hands are strong, a nice combination. Hanson's swing is pretty short and when he is on time, he is a dangerous hitter. The bat head flies through the zone with pretty easy effort and he seemed to be more comfortable facing better velocity. Presently he is a line drive type of hitter, with power. The more he tries to swing for power, the less of a hitter he is at this point. When he settles on an approach and swing that he trusts, Hanson should develop into a middle of the line-up hitter. Defensively he also is quite interesting. His strong arm is suited to the left side and his set-up to the ball is excellent. Hanson has athletic actions and shows feel for defense. His knows the game, has good energy and looks like he has fun being on the field. He has hands that work both in fielding the ball and in making quick tags around the bag. His range may move him to second or third in the future, but wherever he plays, he is an above average defensive player. Consider Hanson a top level D1 prospect and expect him to also get pretty significant pro interest as well.

Jason Hanson is a 2008 SS from Sabino HS, residing in Tucson, AZ, with a 5'11" 177 lb. frame. Hanson was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase and was written up in the Top Prospect list. Has a good INF build and a strong, athletic body. Offensively he has a good pre-pitch set-up and stands in the box with confidence. Does a nice job getting the barrel to the ball. Hanson has good bat speed and a short finish to his swing, allowing him to get out of the box well. Has some pop and it comes from his bat speed and his wrists. The ball gets off his bat well. Hanson flashed good all-around hitting ability and stayed in the middle of the field. He handled upper 90ish velocity and his effort level to compete looked very easy. Defensively Hanson showed good actions. He has a strong arm and good hands... he should be able to stay at SS for awhile, especially as long as his bat keeps playing as a more than MIF type bat. Hanson is an excellent prospect for most D1 programs.
