Blackley is a 6-3, 175 lb senior first baseman from North Carolina with a projectable frame. He ran the 60 in 7.66 and showed good arm strength during infield drills at 79 mph. Blackley takes a full, aggressive swing at the plate and generates good raw bat speed. He pulls his head and shoulders off the plate pretty badly trying to pull and lift the ball, which hurts his ability to make consistent contact. Blackley is strong enough to drive the ball hard without the extra effort and aggression and would benefit from a more controlled approach. Blackley has the kind of frame that should add strength and he has the athletic ability to improve. Blackley is a good student.
