Michael Abbenante is a 5'10" 155 pound 2006 second baseman, pitcher, and outfielder from New Smyrna Beach, Florida who attends Atlantic High School. He has a medium frame and a slender build. Michael has good actions defensively with nice soft hands and footwork. He makes very good accurate throws and has a quick release as well. He showed decent arm strength by throwing 75 mph across the infield. He has good flexibility that gives him good range side to side. Abbenante has a short compact swing at the plate. He is very balanced and stays inside the ball very well with some quick hands. His swing is very smooth with little wasted movement and he makes solid contact. On the mound, Michael throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action in the back. He has a slight hip turn and uses a drop and drive delivery that is very clean. He has a nice finish and good extension with low effort. Abbenante's fastball topped out at 78 mph and was fairly straight. His curveball was at 68 mph and his change up was at 73 mph with nice sink to it. Michael is a solid all around prospect who is also a good student.
