Charles Epperson is a 2008 outfielder/right handed pitcher from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a lean and athletic 6'0", 175 lb. frame. He showed very good arm strength from the outfield with raw throwing mechanics and good fielding actions. He short armed a few throws, but he has the arm speed and arm strength to be a top defensive outfielder. Epperson is quick (7.27-60) and can cover a great deal of ground in the outfield as well as on the bases. He has very good bat speed with a line drive swing plane. He sometimes gets his weight on his front side too early causing inconsistent contact, but the potential for him to be a top hitter is there. He will pound balls on the inner half. Epperson throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and struggled with repeating his delivery and release point. This caused him to struggle with his command. His fastball topped out at 73 mph, and his 12 to 6 curveball was 61 mph. Epperson could improve his velocity immediately by staying behind the ball. The potential is there for him on the mound, but his future looks very bright in the outfield. Epperson could be a top prospect. He is a must follow, and is a very good student.
