Tyson Taylor is a 2006 RHP/OF from Scripps Ranch HS, residing in San Diego, CA, with a 6'3", 185 lb. frame. He has a long and lanky build with projectable proportions and another nice asset for a young, still developing pither; big feet. In general, Taylor has a nice pitcher's body. He pitches from an over the top slot and has a loose arm action with a shallow (read that as he does not extend much past his waist) arc on the backside. Taylor understands how to pitch with the fastball (76-77). At this point in his development, his best pitch is a 12/6 type curveball (66-69) that has tight spin and rolling action. Taylor throws the curveball aggressively and is able to drop it into bottom of the zone. As his arm strength and arm speed increase, that aggressive nature with his curveball will be a big plus for him. Taylor also showed plus arm speed with the change-up (69-71) that had some diving action at the plate. It is possible that pitch was a split finger fastball. Taylor is recovering from an arm injury so his fastball velocity should come back in the spring. As a hitter, his bat is flat through zone and Taylor clearly likes to swing the bat. However, his future is on the mound. Taylor is likely a JC follow.
