OF-LHP Troy Harlander: Harlander is left/left athletically built junior outfielder from Minnesota who caught all the Perfect Game scout’s attention right away at the start of the Showcase. He ran an easy 7.06 in the 60 and had the smoothest and best throwing stroke of any outfielder during the drills. We’d never seen Harlander before so this was a pleasant surprise. During batting practice, Harlander showed a level, easy swing and made consistent contact to all fields. He doesn’t have the hand strength or upper body strength right now to drive the ball with the wood bat, though. All of his athleticism and smooth actions didn’t translate to the mound, at least not right now. He uses no front side at all during his delivery and only reached 78 mph on the radar gun, with a 64 mph curveball. Just based on his outfield arm strength there is plenty more velocity in there with better mechanics. Overall, this is a very interesting young athlete who is just scratching the surface of his abilities. Keep an eye on him.
