Tiago Thomas is a 2005 catcher from Pompano Beach, Florida. Thomas is a player we've seen a lot, and we’ve begun to really appreciate the consistency of his skills and effort. You really know what you’re going to get from Thomas at the ball park. His catching skills and mechanics are very consistent and repeatable. Thomas made 5 throws to second base during the workouts and every one was on the money at 74 mph and between 2.17 and 2.23. At the plate, Thomas hits out of an open to closed stance with some crouch. His swing has similar consistency and he always makes contact. What Thomas has not been able to do all the times we’ve seen him is get his hands started early enough to get good extension through the ball and use some of the power and strength that he has in his 6'2" frame. He’s frequently jammed and ends up hitting infield ground balls. With aluminum, the results could be very different. Thomas' work ethic, skills and tools will fit in very well at the college level. Tiago is a very good student.

Tiago Thomas is a 6'2", 185 lb. catcher/first baseman from Pompano Beach, Florida, with a strong body and 7.16 sixty speed. He can get down the line and showed 4.5 home to first time. Behind the plate he showed pop ranges from 2.11-2.21 and a top velocity of 74 mph. Tiago showed average tools behind the plate with average transfer speed and average footwork. At first base he showed good arm strength with 78 mph velocity, and had good footwork around the bag. Tiago is a right handed hitter with an open to closed approach, and a rotational type swing with well above average bat speed. He has good balance in his swing and turns well on inside pitches. There's some jump to the ball at contact, and we can see Tiago hitting with some power if he develops a bit more lift in his swing. He's athletic and a good student.

Tiago Thomas is a 2005, 6'2" catcher from Pompano, Beach, FL, who we’ve seen often in the past. He has a very nice athletic body and above average body life for a young catcher. We’ve seen Thomas’s arm strength and pop times steadily improve over the last year and his 2.03 pop in Fort Myers during workouts was a big step forward for him. Thomas’s athletic ability serves him well for the rest of his defensive package. Thomas generates good bat speed with a rotational swing that doesn’t incorporate much of his lower half. It’s a flat swing that can get long at times when he spins off. Thomas has the physical ability to improve a lot as a hitter, just as he has improved as a defender, and he’s a hard worker. Keep a close eye on this kid, he has athletic ability. Tiago is a good student.

Tiago Thomas -- Thomas is a junior catcher from Florida with a very good athletic body and strong projection. We’ve seen him play a number of times over the last year and he’s improving his strength and body life each time. Thomas hits from a wide stance with a balanced approach and uses the entire field with line drive power. He runs well for a catcher, too. Thomas is a good receiver and works very hard behind the plate in shifting and moving. The one area that Thomas hasn’t shown much improvement in is his arm strength. He made one nice game throw at 2.31. He’s certainly athletic enough to play other positions. Thomas is a very good student who seems to have a great attitude at the ball park. If he increases his throwing ability he will be a highest level catcher.

Thomas is a 6'1-170 catcher with some good athletic ability. He's an easy glider who ran a 7.31 at UNC, but he looks faster than that. He shows a decent transfer and nice hands behind the plate. His arm strength should improve a lot as he grows bigger and stronger. He shows bat speed and hands strength. Could hit with wood bat power down the road. Tiago projects and he's only an "05". He is a very good student.
