Bill Henke is a 2006 middle infielder from Birmingham, AL with a medium athletic build that shows lower body strength at 6'0", 190 pounds. Defensively, he showed easy actions and soft hands during both the workout and games. He showed very good arm strength topping at 88 mph with good online carry and a clean arm stroke. At the plate, he hits from a slightly open stance with a long load. He showed good bat speed that was capable of producing gap power with wood. He centers on the ball well and makes consistent solid contact. He also pitched from a low 3/4 slot with natural run on his 81 mph fastball. He threw a 10-4 curveball at 68 mph, and a change at 74 mph. He is a solid all around player and he will be a top level college prospect for 2006.

Henke is a junior middle infielder from Alabama with a mature body and good present strength, especially in his lower half. He showed very good actions on defense with confident, aggressive movement through the ball and present upper college level arm strength. Henke’s body looks like a future third baseman’s but he moves well at shortstop now and his actions play. At the plate, Henke showed two different approaches during BP and against live pitching and they were the opposite of what you usually see. In BP he was short and crisp to the ball with a good load and a simple swing that promised good power production in the future. He used his above average hand strength well in handling the bat head. During games, Henke had a bigger load and less balance and his swing got long to the ball, although the raw bat speed was still there. We think that Henke can be a very productive hitter at the next level if he can carry his BP approach over into the game.
