Spiker Helms is a 2008 RHP/MIF with a 6'0", 175 lb frame from Wildwood, MO who attends St Francis Borgia HS. Spiker has an athletic build and showed very good all-around athletic ability at the event. On the mound Spiker has a high energy delivery with great balance and good arm speed. He shows feel for a solid slider, but needs to work on developing the rest of his off-speed pitches. Spiker is very adept at holding runners on base and he fields his position well. At the plate Spiker is a switch-hitter that looks better from the right side of the plate. He has good present strength in his swing and shows pop to all fields. He has quality hitting tools and would probably be best just to hit from the right side only. In the field Spiker really gets after the ball with a strong arm and solid range. He gets good carry on his throws and could project at a number of positions. Spiker is a solid student that should be a high-level college prospect.

Helms is a 5-11, 170 lb sophomore right handed pitcher from Missouri. He throws from a deliberate, low effort delivery with good coiling action and a mid 3/4's release point. Helms showed good arm strength for his age at 82-83 mph and even better life on his pitches, with plus run and sink on his fastball. The life on Helm's fastball enabled him to pitched inside consistently to right handed hitters, which they didn't like much at all. Helms threw two different breaking balls, a 68-70 mph curveball that had occasional sharp downer breaking action and a 76 mph slider. He also threw a 65 mph change that looked like it had some split finger action to it. Helms is a promising young right hander with good present stuff for his age and an aggressive approach to the game. Named to the Top Prospect Game.

Spiker Helms is a 2008 right handed pitcher/middle infielder from Wildwood, MO, with a 5'11", 170 lb. frame. Helms has a clean and easy arm on the mound with very good arm speed. He has a slow and deliberate delivery, and stays tall with a forceful release. Helms could use his lower half more to ease the workload on his arm and lengthen his stride. Helms gets late movement on his fastball that topped out at 81 mph, and he mixes in a 74 mph slider with an 11 to 5 break, and a 65 mph change up. He has solid control of all three pitches. Helms is quick to the plate with runners on base, but he might worry about the runners too much. He is a good looking pitching prospect with projectable velocity. Helms also showed good infield actions with good range, quick feet, soft hands, and solid arm strength. He hit from an upright stance with a high hand set, and had solid bat speed. Helms hit a solid double to right field during one of the showcase games. Helms is a two way prospect who needs to be followed closely. He is also a good student.
